Cambodia Travel: Business Traveler Summary

Travel to Cambodia can proceed.
Most travelers limit visits to a few days at temples and major sites in the capital. Travel to the interior is not advised due to the presence of unexploded mines, poor road conditions and absence of adequate medical services.
Crime is the highest risk factor impacting on foreigners in Cambodia. Basic levels of security awareness and security precautions should be adopted: armed robbery is common in major cities; the use of firearms is common; and petty crime is common, especially in popular tourist areas, bars and crowded locations. The risk of crime increases after dark in the popular tourist destinations of Siem Reap, Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh.
Accommodation in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh are on par with any other in the region.

Due to the large numbers of tourists involved in road accidents on motorcycles, police in Siem Reap have banned rental outlets from renting motorcycles to foreigners.

Vendors and restaurants tend to be all-day operations, opening at about 0800 and closing at 2100 or 2200. Government offices, as well as banks, travel agencies and museums, are usually open from 0800 to 1600-1700 with an hour lunch break. Power cuts are frequent and outside Phnom Penh electricity is generally available only in the evenings. Domestic and international calls can be made at post offices or telecom offices in most towns.
Women are advised to dress modestly and permission should be sought before taking photographs of people, especially monks.
